Pink Shell Azalea

Pink Shell AzaleaIf you’ve ever seen the Pink Shell Azalea, consider yourself fortunate. This globally threatened species is only found in five counties in WNC including Jackson and Macon, but nowhere else in the world. The Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust led a guided hike last week in search of the rare and beautiful Pink Shell Azalea in Panthertown Valley. Keep your eyes peeled, as the wild, native shrubs are in bloom now.
